Abstract
This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation provides tech leaders with guidance on key considerations for building value for the organization with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). The guide outlines a path for getting started with GenAI and establishing use cases that deliver the highest business value. Leaders will find ways to develop organizational guardrails and appropriately assess risks. CIOs and CTOs can't block GenAI but must closely guide its integration into enterprise technology.
The tech industry is at a seminal moment. Rarely has a technology emerged with as much executive support, defined business outcomes, and rapid adoption as generative AI. IDC has found that already a third of worldwide enterprises are significantly investing in GenAI. Technology leaders need to take action early just to keep pace with competitors. At the same time, enterprises must embrace generative AI responsibly and effectively to get the best value and avoid unintended risks.
"Generative AI potential for innovation and disruption is on a scale comparable to the introduction of the internet and the smartphone," says Ritu Jyoti, group VP, Artificial Intelligence and Automation Research at IDC. "Enterprises need to understand and embrace generative AI responsibly, while pursing value and helping their organizations achieve sustainable competitive advantage."
