Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights results from IDC's Worldwide AI in Networking Special Survey, quantifying the use of AI-powered management in campus and branch networking both today and in two years.

"A key question in IDC's 2024 Worldwide AI in Networking Special Survey was to quantifiably gauge survey respondents' preference with using AI-powered network management in the campus and branch. The data found that only 20% of campus and branch network management tasks are enhanced by AI today and only 25% will be in two years. While the results found some differences by segments of respondents who are more mature in their organization's overall AI journey, overall, the results reflect a hesitancy to use AI for wired and wireless LAN management tasks. Other survey data found the top areas where organizations use AI-powered network management included network security, root cause analysis and guided remediation, and AI-powered chatbots. To increase comfort in using AI-powered networking, vendors should evangelize the AI-powered networking capabilities of their campus and branch platforms and provide tangible evidence of its effectiveness in enhancing operational efficiencies." — Brandon Butler, senior research manager, Enterprise Networks at IDC.
