Abstract

This IDC Market Analysis Perspective (MAP) provides a view of the cloud-native XDR and artificial intelligence (AI) security analytics market. There are many confluences converging in cybersecurity in autumn 2024. The bloom is fading on generative AI (GenAI) as businesses are trying to rationalize costs for GenAI against the possible benefits. The economic effects of COVID-19 are still here today as businesses and investors are looking at higher interest rates, and this stymies the necessary access to capital to expedite innovation. That said, cybersecurity remains a necessary investment for businesses and governments alike.

This MAP includes insights about cloud-native XDR, network detection and response (NDR), firewall automation, security orchestration and automated response (SOAR), and threat intelligence. In all, vendors from these markets achieved roughly $7 billion in goods and related services.

"While GenAI gets all of the buzz, the cybersecurity vendors are grinding to wring out the most in their technologies," notes Chris Kissel, vice president of research, Worldwide Security and Trust Products. "Network detection and response vendors are moving toward eXtended detection and response (XDR); XDR is looking at ways to become more proactive; and emphasis is being placed on creating solutions for individual customers. GenAI could aid in expediting the optimization of platforms, but there is still a mountain of concern about data exposure and the ability to train large language models."
