Abstract
This IDC Survey provides key findings from IDC's 2024 Worldwide Digital Infrastructure Sentiment Survey. This document focuses on issues related to decision drivers and investment priorities for 2024 and 2025. This survey of 1,129 respondents in North America, Latin America, Asia/Pacific, and Europe was conducted in June 2024 while IT leaders were grappling with how best to support the infrastructure needs of emerging GenAI use cases and making longer-term strategic decisions about infrastructure funding, architecture, and operating models.
Digital infrastructure continues to be recognized as a critical enabler of digital business and emerging AI-powered innovation. IDC's 2024 Worldwide Digital Infrastructure Sentiment Survey shows that AI and data requirements are the top drivers for change in computing and storage strategies over the next two years with most organizations planning for interoperable hybrid environments and use of multiple public clouds.
Lack of up-to-date IT operations staff and skills (38%), lack of knowledge about GPUs and accelerated computing for AI (35%), and lack of infrastructure governance (35%) are top challenges cited as preventing organizations from fully realizing the business value of their infrastructure investments. AI-optimized infrastructure and ITOps staffing, skills, training, and automation investments are seen as the most strategic over the next two years.
