Abstract
This IDC Market Perspective provides insight into buyer expectations of the benefits and challenges when utilizing managed SPs to support client use of a multicloud operating model, which involves deployment of the same process (e.g., DevOps, recovery), management approach (e.g., containers, APIs), and/or protocols and procedures (e.g., security, compliance) across multiple public cloud provider platforms. This document also highlights key use cases for a multicloud operating model and the critical capabilities that managed SPs need to implement to ensure that they are successful in supporting client use of multicloud operations.
"Managed SPs need to help enterprises optimize the value when deploying multicloud operations to ensure that organizations can meet critical business and IT objectives particularly around enabling agility, improving customer experience, driving revenue, and shifting to an opex model, to name a few," says David Tapper, program VP, Outsourcing and Managed Cloud Services at IDC. "Investments that managed SPs must make to ensure that they can effectively support client use of multicloud operations must involve emphasizing the value proposition of a multicloud operating model; building a new operating model; creating a robust governance structure; building the right organizational structure; establishing standardized processes, protocols, and policies; implementing an integrated matrix for public cloud partners; and leveraging key strengths in supporting multicloud operations."
