This IDC Perspective summarizes the discussion shared by IDC's Global CIO Advisory Board members on the evolving role of technology leadership to deliver better business agility and outcomes. Data from IDC's 2023 CEO Survey was shared by Teodora Siman, research manager at IDC. Panelist Richard Wiedenbeck, CTTO at Ameritas, spoke regarding their approach to technology investments and how minimize the focus on methodology and maximize value by approaching the IT portfolio through the lens of managing investments and outcomes.
"As organizations commit to long-term digital business initiatives, foundational to the business strategy, the role of the CIO evolves. There is a decrease in the number of CIOs reporting to the CFO and COO, who are typically focused on cost optimization. While this focus is critical, in digitally mature organizations, the technology function is no longer viewed as a cost center; rather, it is a growth enabler, with the CIO reporting directly to the CEO." — Teodora Siman, research manager at IDC
