Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses IDC's Future of Digital Infrastructure framework, updated for 2024, that provides enterprise decision-makers with an updated view on how emerging innovations and disruptions across the digital infrastructure landscape will offer important opportunities for competitive advantage in the coming years. The framework identifies critical compute, storage, edge, network, and management operations technologies and public cloud infrastructure services that are likely to disrupt and transform IT operations and digital business capabilities. The framework also highlights the vital role that modern operating models, sourcing strategies, and governance processes play in ensuring that budgets, policies, and outcomes are well aligned across the business.
"Leading enterprises must be proactive in anticipating and exploiting digital infrastructure innovations as a new generation of compute, storage, network, edge, and management technologies and public cloud services become available," explains Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president, Future of Digital Infrastructure Agenda at IDC. "IDC's updated Future of Digital Infrastructure framework identifies some of the most important innovations IT leaders need to evaluate and deploy in the coming years. It also highlights the vital role that collaborative centers of excellence play in ensuring that organizations make cost-effective strategic digital infrastructure investments while minimizing the risk of tech debt and promoting organizationwide alignment on operational and security policies."
