Abstract
This IDC study provides a forecast of user spending and delves into market trends and prospects for the Japan Internet of Things (IoT) market by industry sector and by technology. Between 2024 and 2028, the Japan IoT market is expected to see increased IoT adoption in the logistics, construction, and medical fields because of the worsening labor shortage caused by the declining working population. The main use cases in logistics, healthcare, and construction include smart warehousing to improve logistics efficiency, construction machinery management to improve the efficiency of construction work, and bedside telemetry and healthcare.
Yoriyuki Yamashita, research manager of Infrastructure and Devices at IDC Japan, says, "In the future, IoT solutions will be particularly valuable in automating and streamlining onsite work in industries, such as logistics, construction, and healthcare, in which labor shortages are becoming more serious. In addition, the spread of satellite communications will make it possible to communicate in areas in which mobile phone signals are not available, which will also contribute to IoT market expansion. Furthermore, security measures will become even more important when using IoT because of the Economic Security Promotion Act and the Labeling Scheme based on Japan-Cyber-Security Technical Assessment Requirements (JC-STAR)."
