Abstract

This IDC Market Forecast presents the actual IT spending in 2021 and 2022, and the IT spending forecasts from 2023 to 2027 by industry segment, company size, and annual turnover in the Japan IT market. The study also analyzes IT spending by dividing the industries into 21 categories, company size and product segments into five categories, and annual turnover into four categories. It also discusses IT spending trends observed in each industry segment.

Surveys conducted by IDC indicate that the negative impact of changes in economic conditions on IT investment in 2022 will be small compared with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. An increasing number of Japan companies are expected to increase their IT investments to expand their operations and create new businesses while strengthening security measures. Although waves of interrelated economic, political, and social disruptive changes are likely to hit companies around the world over the next few years and continue to play havoc with business execution plans, Japan companies retain their appetite for new IT investments and are poised to leverage digital technologies to strengthen resiliency to prepare for contingencies. In particular, they must recognize the importance of supporting the sharing, use, management, and value of data across the enterprise in response to rapid changes in the ecosystem and value chain. Through this attitude, IDC believes that companies can respond to change and remain competitive.

"User companies need the appropriate infrastructure, tools, data analysis, and other services to make use of data, and it is important for IT suppliers to expand the possibilities for cross-disciplinary data utilization by building a cross-industry cocreation platform," says Chikara Abe, senior market analyst, Verticals and Cross technology, IDC Japan.
