Abstract

This IDC Perspective focuses on EDF Energy's Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear power station, which will be the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the U.K., as well as a digital-first nuclear power build. To develop its digital-first nuclear power build, EDF Energy established a dedicated Digital Delivery team responsible for the delivery of all the IT and digital projects, as well as for all its technology partners, system integrators, and service providers. HPC leverages the most innovative digital technologies, such as public cloud, while achieving the highest levels of accreditation and regulatory approval from the U.K.'s Office for Nuclear Regulation.

"Hinkley Point C is not just a new generation nuclear power station — the first of its kind in the U.K.; it is also a digital-first build intertwining cutting-edge technology with the highest safety and regulatory standards to revolutionize energy generation for decades to come," said Gaia Gallotti, research director, IDC Energy Insights. "The build of such a plant is an enormous feat, projects are tightly interconnected and subsequent to one another, which requires digital tools to be delivered just in time."
